Eric's 2007 Movie List

Here you go, folks...98 movies from 2007. This list has changed since it was first published as I moved films that were released in 2008 to that list. My thoughts: As usual, these aren't necessarily the "best" films of the year, just my faves. Having said that, this was a better than average year for film and my list reflects that, for once. I absolutely loved the top ten flicks on my list and can recommend them to almost anyone without hesitation. And I found that I thoroughly enjoyed the top twenty-five. In addition to the aforementioned, the top sixty or so come with my recommendation...dependent, of course, on your taste. This year I escaped having seen very few films that I truly disliked; those found their way to the bottom fifteen. And before you toss aspersions, let me say that I thought "Atonement" and "Michael Clayton" were both good movies, but waaaaaay overrated. I would elucidate, but I would have to resort to spoilers. Please feel free to leave comments whether you agree or not...especially if not. Oh...and this year I tried to included as much info as was available concerning the release dates of films I caught at SXSW Film and the Austin Film Festival. Ladies and gentlemen, sort your Netflix queues...

The great debaters 41!!!! That was a great movie... I believe you are underestimating the historical context and the tremendous influence that those guys had in a difficult period in American history.

Where is 300?.... 300 is at least top 25

Where is Amazing Grace? Great movie too

The Great Debaters was a good, solid movie. The performances were great, the dialog was good, and the direction was fine, but there was nothing that really set it apart from your typical formulaic historical drama. I did have one small problem with the film's accuracy -- Wiley College's big debate actually came against USC, not Harvard. The college was needlessly changed to Harvard for dramatic effect. This irked me a bit.

I didn't see 300. I'm sure it's a fine piece of cinema.

I also missed Amazing Grace.

If I see them, I will add them to the list.
