The usual caveat applies: These are my favorite movies, not necessarily the best. I acknowledge The Reader is a "better" movie than Summerhood, but I enjoyed Summerhood more. I see a good number of films at festivals -- most of which are never released. But some were lucky enough to see a release this year, so to the right of those films you will see the year of the list on which the movie originally appeared and it's former ranking. So, here it is... I would call the top few "great". The top 30 or so I can definitely recommend to anyone. Then pick from the next fifty or so based on taste or interest in the subject matter. But the average movie-goer should stay far away from the bottom ten. Feel free to comment if you agree and especially if you disagree.

What, no action movies? Wait, just kidding. Great list, Eric! I may have seen half of these!! Wrestler and Revolutionary Road would definitely be in my top 5. I love those gritty, completely fallible characters. Of course, for pure enjoyment Sex & the City would have to be in there somewhere. C'mon! :) I like that In Bruges is pretty high. Collin Farrel somehow charmed me in that one. I'll have to come up with a top 20 to compare. And Man on Wire better win best doc at the Oscars. Unbelievable movie.
Well, I have seen only three movies from your list (3.2%)... And definitely those three are not in my top ten... How about transformers...the FXs are very good.
Maybe transformers was released in 2007... The best movie in 2008 was Erika's labor in HD!!!!
