As usual, I liked almost everything I saw this year to varying degrees. The only anomalies this year are how highly I placed a horror/suspense/thriller, a comedy, and a sci-fi flick. That means they must be damn good movies. It Follows breaks new storytelling ground in a tired genre. Horror movies like this just don't come along very often...the less you know about it going in, the better. And if you've never heard of What We Do in the Shadows, do yourself a favor and pick it up. You can thank me later. The Revenant is riveting enough to displace the eminently suspenseful Ex Machina, which held my top spot for months. I would only advise you stay away from the last 5 or 6 on my list. Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem is nothing more than an exercise in torture perpetrated by the director. I challenge you to make it through in one sitting. Sadly, I missed a few that I really wanted to see, but I plan to catch up with them soon and amend the list as necessary. Those I missed were Steve Jobs, Suffragette, Son of Saul, Sicario, and 99 Homes.

I've seen 7 of these, too. But not the same 7. I'm curious about your thoughts on White God. I found a lot of the violence really fake looking. Not that I would've enjoyed realistic dog torturing.
Which ones did you see? I thought White God was a valiant attempt at something (though I'm not sure what), but it just came off as silly to me.
